#1 is Safety. The outdoor TV is designed specifically for use outdoors here are the reasons why. Indoor TV’s have ventilation holes in the housing so the heat created by the internal electronics can escape before doing major damage to the electronic circuitry. When placed outdoors, these necessary ventilation holes provide an easy passage way for moisture, insects, dust, and dirt. These elements entering the TV will lead to short circuiting the electronics, and scarier, it can lead to deadly electrocution to you or a loved one. The potentially lethal combination of moisture, electronics, and 110 volt electricity is nothing to take lightly.
What if I tape over the holes of my TV in order to prevent the penetration of moisture, insect, dust and dirt? You can, but this is a real bad idea! If you close the ventilation holes in an indoor TV, the TV will very quickly self destruct from the internal trapped high heat being created by its electronics. Almost all indoor TV’s today are black, which even compounds this high temperature problem, because black absorbs a lot more heat than other colors. High temperature leads very quickly to premature electronic circuit board life.
One of the first things you will discover when you haul your TV outside is the total lack of sound volume. You need a ton more sound when viewing TV in the outdoors. SkyVue offers the "Best Audio in the Market", Bar none! The key is a well designed in house manufactured Outdoor Speaker Bar, which amplifies audio wattage greatly. The bigger the TV, the more audio you need, because it will be in a bigger venue and viewed from farther distances. The competition seems to think 20 Watts works for all sizes, we think this makes no sense. CAN YOU HEAR ME? SkyVue Audio Rocks!!!!
Clearly the 2 most important ingredients in watching TV indoors or out is Audio and Video. The movie theaters figured this out a long time ago. SkyVue TV with Outdoor Speaker Bars are the clear winner in both these categories.
In the outdoors the daily fast temperature swings from high to low and low to high are many times greater than in your home. These fast swings in temperatures create air laden moisture which leads to corrosion on the circuitry inside the TV. In order to sustain these fast temperature swings, and overall extreme conditions of the outdoors, you must have heavily conformal coated circuitry. Since indoor TV’s don’t experience anything close to these conditions, they aren’t designed for it, because it adds considerable cost to conformal coat circuit boards which an indoor TV just doesn’t need.
If you ever tried watching television in a very sunny room, you know what the bright sun does to your viewing experience. Most indoor TV’s screens don’t have a real good anti-glare screen coating which will improve your outdoor viewing experience.
Indoor TV housings are made from composite resins which work very well for their application. When placing an indoor TV outside, it’s exposure to ultra-violet light goes up dramatically. In the injection molding process, Titanium Dioxide is added to composite resins to prevent future deterioration from ultra violet light. Titanium Dioxide is a very expensive ingredient in the cake mix for resin in injection molding. Consequently, indoor TV housings that are designed to be indoors have “little to no” Titanium Dioxide added, for obvious financial reasons.
Make sure you read the warranty on your standard TV before making a decision to put it outdoors. You will find that you will void your warranty. Don’t let a hungry commissioned salesperson tell you differently. If you are told that the warranty will be honored, ask them to put that commitment in writing.
Indoor TV remote controls are not water proof or even water resistant for obvious reasons. That one time you leave your remote control outdoors could be an expensive mistake to make.
